ABOUT

Stethoscopes & Little Folks was started in 2017 with the aim of sharing practical tips on how to help kids go through medical issues. The idea came about after a weekend with my two best friends from high school the year before. It was one of our rare annual get togethers (without husbands and kids!) which turned into a 'life intervention' for me. I was struggling to juggle working as a doctor, being a wife and being a parent. When I had a long day at work, I felt guilty about not spending more time with my kids. When I had a day with the kids, I was thinking about work. It was a vicious cycle that was really getting to me, and was starting to affect my home life. But how to make a change? Especially when you love your work and your family?

The answer for me was to take a giant leap into the unknown.

And so I left my family's medical practice in regional Australia with its 2hr daily commute. I left my wonderful patients of over 10yrs. I left my 'safe place' to forge a new place for myself in the world.

My first goal is to be the best mum I can be to my 3 wonderful kids (I am realistic enough to know I cannot be that perfect mum). My second goal is to continue helping people as a doctor but this time without sacrificing my family to do it. Through Stethoscopes & Little Folks I combine the knowledge that I have gained through my work as a GP with my experience as a mother. Hopefully you will find these simple practical tools helpful when dealing with medical issues that crop up in everyday parenting life.

Fingers crossed!
